Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

Nature & Nations is made by one person, and this policy is written the same way — plainly, and only about what is actually true. The short version: this website sets no cookies, runs no advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your data. Below is the full detail.

1. Who we are

“Nature & Nations,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Dante Barnett, an independent game developer trading as Nature & Nations, the developer of the game Nature & Nations and the operator of natureandnations.com. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at dantebarnett@natureandnations.com.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers our website (natureandnations.com) and our game. It does not cover third-party services that operate under their own privacy policies — most importantly the Steam store and client (operated by Valve), and any social platforms we link to, such as X and Reddit. When you buy, download, or run the game through Steam, Valve collects and processes your data as an independent controller under Valve’s Privacy Policy.

3. Information we collect

On the website

The website is a static page with no accounts, no login, and no forms. We do not set cookies and do not use advertising or analytics trackers. Data is nonetheless processed in two ordinary ways:

If you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you choose to include. Our email runs on Google Workspace. We use this only to read and reply to you.

In the game

The game is not yet released. It is designed to be played primarily offline and locally — your saves and settings live on your own device. We do not require an account with us to play. If a released version of the game introduces optional features that collect data (for example anonymous crash reports to help us fix bugs, or cloud saves through Steam), we will describe exactly what is collected and why — both in the game and by updating this policy — before that feature is used. Purchases, Steam accounts, and Steam cloud saves are handled by Steam/Valve under Valve’s privacy policy; we do not handle your payment details.

4. Why we process data, and our legal bases

Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. Data is only processed by the service providers that make the site and game work:

These providers act as our processors or as independent controllers under their own policies. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

6. International data transfers

We are based in the United States, and our providers (Cloudflare, Google, Valve) operate globally. If you access the site or game from outside the U.S., your data may be processed in the U.S. or other countries. Those providers handle international transfers under their own privacy policies and service terms.

7. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected. Cloudflare handles server and security logs under its own service terms and privacy practices. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to handle your request and for our records, then deleted on request. Any future in-game data will have its retention described when that feature launches.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:

EU/UK (GDPR): you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we do not offer financial incentives for data.

To exercise any right, email dantebarnett@natureandnations.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity first.

9. Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control

Because we do not track visitors across sites or serve targeted advertising, there is nothing for a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal to opt out of. We honor these signals by simply not doing that kind of tracking in the first place.

10. Children’s privacy

The game is rated for Teen (ages 13+), and neither the website nor the game is directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or under 16 in regions where that is the applicable age of consent). If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it. An optional age-gated Mature (17+) DLC is planned after launch.

11. Security

We use HTTPS and rely on established providers including Cloudflare, Google, and Valve. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we handle.

12. Links to other sites

Our website and materials may link to third-party sites (such as Steam, X, and Reddit). We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; please review their policies.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website and game evolve — especially before the game collects any new data. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we will note it on the website. The updated policy applies from the “Last updated” date shown above; if a future change requires your consent, we will ask for it.
